Had lots of problems with this unit including two circuit boards that took months to receive; in the mean time, it was turning on all the time even when I wasn't using water. would not recommend this.

we sell and install Rinnai and Navien tankless water heaters. We have had good service out of both of them. we have over 2000 tankless waters in the field and a service dept. so i know when something goes wrong with them. I am the sales manager and all complaints come to me i am not a representative of either company so really no bias here

What was the R-Value of the water heater and what's the R-value of the blanket?

No doubt this will help slow heat transfer but it doesn't actually stop heat transfer. Also when you put a reflective product up against the heat source you no longer have reflection. You now have direct backside conduction so all that remains to slow the heat transfer is the thin layer of fiberglass. The tested R-Value in a lab is irrelevant to field results unless the testing apparatus simulates heat transfer via backside conduction. Also compressing this material will reduce the R-value.

So, you don't have to turn off the gas first? Guess the steps are: 1) turn off water supply/feed at top of tank, 2) drain water through hose running outside of garage, 3) turn water back ON? But leaving the gas one is okay?
