The free end of the hose needs to be connected to a water pump. Once the pump-to-hose-to-heater connections are completed, place your submersible water pump in the tub of white vinegar.
Next, open the incoming or outgoing water valves on the tankless water heater and switch on the pump. The water pump will flush white vinegar through the water heater. Allow the tank to flush for at least 20 to 30 minutes. Once the pumping process is completed, you will have to flush the tank with clear water. Flush with water for a few minutes to wash out all the vinegar.
